Safety
The mountain rewards the prepared
Kamila is a gentle mountain — but it is still a mountain. A few good habits before and during your walk keep every visit a good story.
In an emergency
One number works everywhere in Greece, from any phone — even with no credit and no SIM card.
- Fire service
- 199
- Ambulance (EKAB)
- 166
Every QR sign shows the exact coordinates of where you stand. Open the nearest checkpoint and read them to the operator.
Before you set off
Check the weather
Mountain weather turns faster than the forecast in the village. If storms are near, walk another day.
Carry enough water
At least one litre per person in summer. Count on the water you carry, not on springs along the way.
Wear real shoes
The path is uneven dirt and stone. Trail shoes or boots with a proper sole — never sandals.
Start with daylight to spare
Give yourself the whole walk plus an hour. Dusk arrives early on a forest path.
Tell someone your plan
Say which trail you are taking and when you expect to be back. It takes ten seconds.
Download the trail
One tap while you still have signal, and the map with every checkpoint keeps working with none at all.
On the trail
- Stay on the marked path — shortcuts erode the hillside and get people lost.
- Scan each QR sign as you pass it, so you always know how far you have come and how far is left.
- No fires of any kind, including cigarettes. The forest is at its driest exactly when the trail is at its busiest.
- Whatever you carry up, you carry down — fruit peel is litter too.
- Leave gates as you found them and give grazing animals room.
- Turning back is always a valid plan. The mountain will be here next weekend.
Through the seasons
Summer
Heat and fire danger peak. Start early, finish before midday, and check the daily fire-risk map before you go.
Autumn – winter
Short days, mud and low cloud. Waterproof shoes and an early start matter more than fitness — and in hunting season, wear something bright.
Spring
The mountain at its best — but streams run high and the path stays slippery after rain.
